Irene E Nelson

Irene Nelson, 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Glen Rock on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Born in Chicago, IL to Andrew and Elizabeth Krajcovic on June 1, 1927, Irene was the youngest of four siblings. She graduated from Lindblom High School in 1945 and went on to work for such high-profile companies as Western Union and later, Colonial Airlines and Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant. Irene shared countless stories of celebrity encounters from her years as a stewardess, regarded as a glamorous occupation during her tenure in the late 50’s/early 60’s. Having moved east to Jackson Heights, Queens, Irene and her girlfriends chose to vacation in Southampton, NY one fateful summer, where she would meet the love of her life, Howard Nelson. Following a whirlwind courtship, the two were married at the Bedford Park Presbyterian Church in the Bronx on February 16, 1963. They later moved to their lovely Glen Rock home, where they would remain together until Howard’s passing in 2010. Until then, they enjoyed traveling within the US, visiting Europe and of course, the more-than-occasional visits to the casinos of Atlantic City. Irene is survived by her daughter Nancy-Ellen Brennan, son-in-law Paul Brennan and cherished grandsons Michael and Kevin, as well as nieces and nephews in the Chicago area. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to an animal shelter or charity in honor of Irene’s love of animals.
