Avon Thomas Morgan III

March 1, 1984 ~ July 29, 2022 (age 38) 38 Years Old

Tribute

Avon Thomas Morgan III was born to Avon T. Morgan Jr. and Barbara Morgan on Thursday, March 1, 1984 in New York City.  He and his older sister, Erin, enrolled at the same school their father had attended decades earlier, PS 187 in Washington Heights.  In 1991, the Morgan family moved to Ridgewood NJ where Avon would ascend through Travell Elementary School, Benjamin Franklin Middle School, and Ridgewood High School.

Throughout this time, Avon thrived in athletics. First practicing martial arts with his father, then playing soccer, baseball, lacrosse, football, hockey, and he wrestled. In fact, Avon earned accolades for his football achievements at Trinity College. Avon began his professional career in public service in the Family Division of Bergen County Courthouse. Avon attended law school at New York Law while continuing to work full-time, even while accepting additional duties such as clerking for the Hon. Roy McGeady.

Upon graduation from law school, Avon would practice civil law before serving in the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. Avon tried cases in the Sexual Victims Unit, developed an expertise in bail reform, and presented to the Grand Jury.

Shortly after leaving work on July 29, 2022, Avon was injured in motorcycle accident, and passed away shortly thereafter in Hackensack. Avon is survived by his parents, Avon and Barbara Morgan; sister, Erin; aunt, Patricia; fiancée Kristyn Abreu; as well as a host of family, friends, neighbors, former teammates, loved ones, colleagues, and fraternity brother.  His presence was larger than life. Thus, Avon’s impact will live beyond his short time with us.

In lieu of flowers, please prepare to make a donation to memorial scholarship that will be established in his name. His family is grateful for the outpouring of support from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, extended family, life-long friends, and greater community.
