Chi Hyun Candice Paek-Sung

Chi Hyun Candice Paek-Sung, 54, of Hawthorne, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. She is survived by her husband Yunmo, her two sons Gabriel and Michael, her mother Yong Cha, her sister Michelle, and her brother Michael.  She is pre-deceased by her father Tu Hyun. Candice grew up in Singapore with her family and cousins Helen and Daniel and their families. She came to the United States in 1984 to attend Pepperdine University in California.  She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. She then moved to New York to study medical sonography at SUNY Downstate. Candice worked for a number of years as an adult cardiac sonographer at Beth Israel Hospital before moving to Phillips where she worked for over 15 years as a technical application specialist serving most of the major hospitals and many private practitioners in New York City. Many of the doctors and sonographers with whom she worked, as well as her colleagues from Phillips joined her family and friends to bid Candice farewell on September 20, 2019. Candice approached life with irrepressible optimism, an unshakable faith in God, and her own special brand of goofy, endearing, naïve humor. Her legacy is her many, many acts of kindness and sacrifice - small and great - to all with whom she dealt, the memory of which will stay with us for as long as we live.  We thank all our/her friends and colleagues for their condolences and support, and for sharing with us their loving memories of Candice. We also thank the entire Neuro CCU team, palliative care team, and the social workers at Valley Hospital for their unbelievably compassionate care throughout.
